A Partnership at work is like any partnership - it need to be Managed to keep it working well.

Even if you planned it very well, build it superbly, a partnership is still made up of people and so it will invariably shown signs of strain.

A partnership is like any tool- keep it well maintained and it will deliver good service. Neglect will soon lead to problems.

Analysing a Partnership

A very simple tool we can use is the SWOT analysis:

  • What are we good at?
  • What can we use our strengths to do?

  • What are our problems areas?
  • How can we protect our partnerships from threats?

More information on the SWOT analysis can be found here.

Keeping the Partnership going - a regular Maintenance programme

Since we are using a break-down metaphor earlier, let's also use maintenance jargon to examine our partnership. (the maintenance protocol we have chosen is Total Productive Maintenance, the world-class approach to plant and equipment maintenance, contact us if you want to learn more about TPM)

The three TPM criteria for effectiveness are:

  • Availability
  • Performance
  • Quality

Factors

With a piece of plant

With a partnership

Availability

Is it ready to do the necessary work?

Does the partnership arrangement work when it should?

Performance

Is it doing the work as designed?

Does it work as well as we planned it do?

Quality

Is the output meeting the specifications?

Does the partnership bring us the benefits we expected?
